OCTOSCRibb

Octoscribb is an immersive painting kit that makes the children go beyond the boundaries of conventional painting practices and enjoy the process of drawing and painting. The product will encourage the child to be more free in making their creations and empowers them to explore more.

OPPORTUNITY MAPPING

The process started with understanding the Stationery and its role and significance in different context.

CONCEPT BRIEF

To design a stationery product to develop fine motor skills in children. (3-5 years old)

The area of development to encourage fine motor skills—or use of the hands that is because it develops smaller muscles in the body which increases independence in smaller but equally significant matters: opening doors, zipping zippers and so on.

When combined with increasing hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills also open new doors to exploration, learning, and creative expression.

This in-turn impacts their social growth, where they act confident because of being able to perform their tasks on their own.

USER STUDY (3 TO 5 YEAR OLD CHILD)

When exposed to the new things at an early age, they tend to accept and get immune to the things easily. For example, kids of the age 5 yrs were using hairdryer as a usual tool to dry the paintings done by them.

Aesthetics for the kid becomes important while demanding a specific product. For example: A kid tends to prefer pencils with the printed colors and patterns over the regular  pencil.

INSIGHTS

Once you’ve provided the child with the tools that inspire creativity, stand back and let him loose, even if things are likely to get rather messy. Kids from age

3-5 years tend to focus more on process than on product. They throw themselves into exploring the properties and possibilities of materials like paint, mud, sand, water, and glue without worrying about the results. In fact, when a 3-year-old proudly displays his latest masterpiece by storytelling and creating their own fantasy world that they believe in!

PRODUCT EVALUATION PARAMETERS

Mechanical assembly:

The mechanism involved in the product is the lever and compression spring, acting to rebound the trigger each time, which initiates the movement of rotation, this in turn facilitates scribbling.

Emotional value:

Though 3-year-old child is beginning to understand the emotions he/she’s feeling, they still have very little control over them.  If he finds something funny, he’ll laugh hysterically. If something makes him feel sad or angry, he’ll burst into tears. Giving them the right kind of object that involves tinkering and less feedback loop it is engaging and will be loved by kid. This makes them feel that they can control things and they feel “older” and independent.

USP:

The product is a drawing tool for kids of age 3-5 years old specifically to help them develop their fine-motor skills and eye hand coordination with time.

The concept aims to inculcate USP:
